ON MY MIND: Currently thinking a lot about global data disparities and how the data deficit of emerging economies may be impeding growth prospects.
In other words, how do we close that data gap?
Kinfolk Scientific is a project that explores the relationship between science and society. It tracks old wives' tales and how they are proven by science over time. It's a fun intersection of anthropology and modern science — hoping to prove your grandma right!
>_visit siteThe Myanmar Monitor is a project that monitors the situation in Myanmar since the 2021 coup. There are some great initiatives that are pushing live updates of on the ground developments; this is a personal skills development project to create live data pipelines from social media sources and traditional media APIs.
Nostos Library is a reader-first platform for The Great Books. While there are many ways to get a copy of The Great Books, this project puts the digital reading experience first. Discussions and conversation is also a critical part of the reading experience. But, with the many translations and editions, the line/paragraph numbers can get out of hand — leaving you and your reading group on different pages, on multiple levels. Nostos Library hopes to make the experience of finding passages and comparing texts and thought seamless.
With this, there will also be a web app with a more visual component to the story, helping readers new to these texts throughout the story. With the newest film adaptation of "The Odyssey" coming out later this year, hopefully this will welcome more people to the original text letting them confidently say, "The book was better," or perhaps, "This was as good a reading the book"!
